Riding Sunbeams connects solar power directly to a rail network. Rail transport can be climate friendly if the electricity that is used comes from renewable sources. If the electricity grid does not provide this clean energy, solar power can be connected directly to the rail network. Riding Sunbeams has completed a pilot project in the UK with a third-rail Direct Current system. Their next project will demonstrate the connection to an Alternating Current overline-system. The technology includes energy storage and can be used in metro, tram and train networks.
