Palm oil is used in a lot of products like food and detergents. But there is a problem with palm oil. Palm oil plantations are created by destroying tropical forests, releasing CO2 and disturbing ecosystems. NoPalm has developed a palm oil alternative. Their process uses potato peels, rejected vegetables and other biomass as a feedstock. The biomass is crushed and fermented with yeast. After the fermentation the microbial oil is separated. This microbial oil can be used a pure or fraction replacement for palm oil. The proces does not use GMO genetically modified organisms and is vegan friendly.
