Better origin offers a modular system to grow insects from food waste. The insects can be used as animal feed that is rich in protein and other key nutrients. The advantage is that insects need far less water and land than conventional feeds like soy. It uses food waste instead of burning it. One Better Origin container on a farm can process about 150 tons of waste per year. The insect farming system is fully automated and notifies the farmer when the larvae are ready for harvest.
